How are Those Resolutions Coming?

I was on Clubhouse the other day & came across an interesting conversation. The host was explaining how everyone has goals, especially in the new year when people set resolutions. In January the gyms are packed, vision boards are on display, everybody’s focused and ready to tackle the new year with vigor!!

Then you get a few months into the year & the gym has thinned out and the vision boards (if they’re still on display) are being ignored.

When it’s a goal people tend to not try hard to achieve them, depending on the desired outcome. For example, going to the gym. Yeah, you may want a slimmer, more muscular or just healthier figure, but the body you have is aight enough break up with your gym membership after a few months.

Instead of setting goals I like the idea of making promises to people. Most people make promises to someone they try harder to keep them. This looks like promising your kids you’ll go to the gym so you can enjoy a longer, healthier life with them. Each time you miss a workout you have to tell your kids you let them down. Or that you prioritized something else over living a longer life with them. Yikes!

In business we talk a lot about pain points and using that to get get the potential customer to see their problem and that you have the solution to that problem. Take that same approach to your own goal setting. What pain point is going to strike a nerve in you to cause you to actually complete what you strive to do?

Instead of goals or resolutions try making promises to yourself & don’t let yourself down. What’s promise you can make to yourself today, whether business or or your personal life, that you will accomplish this month? Who will you be letting down if you don’t achieve it? Comment below!

Sis, You Need a Strategy

Let me guess… you’re posting consistently on social media but you’re not seeing a lot of sales or engagement from it. Well, that’s probably because you’re just throwing content our there & hoping something sticks. Sis, you need a strategy.

The basis of any social media marketing strategy is to know WHAT you are selling, WHO you are selling it to and HOW they can get it from you. Here’s the ABC’s for you to create a unique marketing campaign for your specific business:

A. Create an Avatar

In marketing that saying is “If you’re talking to everybody then you’re talking to nobody”. While your products/services may help a wide range of people, you can’t market to 18 to 65+ (the scale on Facebook ads).18 year olds don’t have the same interest, struggles, experience or even listen to the same music as a 65 year old. So if you create an ad referencing a Lil Baby song lyric, it’s probably not going to resonate with a mass amount of people over 35. And if you create an ad that references being an empty nester it probably won’t resonate with people under 50.

B. What are they Buying

The purpose of this content is to get someone to support your business. You can have generic “support my brand” content but you need to choose one specific thing you want people to buy & drill that into their heads. Think about fast food chains. When Wendy’s started selling breakfast, the majority, if not all, of their marketing was about their breakfast menu. Yes, you could still get a 4 for $4 or a Frosty, but they wanted you to focus on their honey butter chicken biscuit. Have that same mindset for your business and spotlight one thing your ideal avatar needs from you.

C. Map out your Creatives

There are 3 components to mapping your creatives: WHAT you’re going to post, WHERE you’re going to post & HOW OFTEN you post.

WHAT to post:

The creatives should fall under one of the 4 E’s: Educate, Entertain, Enlighten or Empower. Posting randomly and remaking trending Reels is fun, but your social media account is giving your ideal client avatar valuable, relatable information that shows them your product/service will take them from where they are currently to where they want to be.

WHERE to post:

You need to decide which content pillar to use. Knowing your content pillar will tell you exactly how to execute. For example, for a Reel you have to record in portrait (vertical) for 1 min or less, versus on Youtube you have to record in landscape (horizontal) and doesn’t have a time limit.

HOW OFTEN to post:

The more often someone sees your face or business pop up on their timeline, explore page or for you page, the better chance you have of getting them to Know, Like & Trust you. If you choose paid advertising you’ll increase your reach and chances to grow your audience quickly, however, promoting your business organically takes a bit more time but you have a better chance at connecting with your audience.

When Is the Best Time to Post on Social Media?

There’s soooo much talk on the internet about when it the best time to post on the internet.

Some say post first thing in the morning to increase your chance of being one of the first things your audience sees when they get online.

Some say post at 12. Especially if you’re on the East coast because it’s lunch time for you but 9am for folks on the West coast.

I don’t see either as wrong. In all honesty, if you’re posting content, then it’s the right time to post!

But the rule of thumb I give to my clients is to review your analytics. Pay attention to the times of day that your posts get the most engagement because that’s when your audience is checking for you! The best time to post is when your audience is watching!

If you’re not consistent with posting or are just starting and don’t have any analytics yet, think as a consumer, specifically your ideal customer. How do they spend their day? What times are they active on social media? For example, if your ideal client works a 9-5 they might spend majority of their time online after 5:30pm. Start posting at those times to be more visible to your audience.

Also, if you do something consistently you can train your audience to seek you at a particular time. I follow a trainer that would go live and teach a twerk fitness class every Tuesday at 7pm during quarantine. If I was interested in a free training from him I knew exactly when it was going to be! Think of this like your hours of operation -if your ideal customer knows where and when to find you, when they need you they know exactly where to go!

Want to create dope content? Here’s what you need!

Maybe you’ve seen the wave of people making videos on social media and are thinking “Hey, I can do that!” Or perhaps you’ve already been creating content but want to step it up a notch.

It doesn’t matter if this content is to promote your business, you’re wanting to make money from content creation, or you just want to do it for fun! What I’m sharing below is for you!

Not gonna waste your time folks. The basics of making good content is: smooth video, good lighting and clear audio. Below are some tools to help you achieve that.

Smooth Video

If you already have a DSLR camera, that’s great! You’re on the right track! If not, that’s perfectly fine. The internet is favoring short form content and the quality of the technology in our smart phone cameras is getting better everyday! People are literally shooting movies with their iPhones! If it’s good enough for that you can definitely create your content with your smart phone as well.

Good Lighting

Being that we’re making VISUAL content, it’s very important that what’s happening in the video can been seen! Ring lights are very popular and have become super affordable over the years. You can also opt for a softbox lighting kit similar to what photographers use -both can be found on Amazon or Ebay. If you’re not a space to invest in lighting equipment utilize the daylight or shoot in rooms lightbulbs that mimic daylight.

Clear Audio

If the lighting it a little off, that’s not the worst thing ever. People will stick through a bad video if they can clearly hear what’s going on. And if you’re giving tips or info about your business or product, what you have to say is way more important than what you’re doing in the video. The free version is of course the built in microphone in your smart phone. For a boost up from that you can head to Amazon and get a mini portable mic. To got full top of the line I suggest a Blue Yeti mic -it’s very popular amongst podcasters and live streamers.

Last, but certainly not least, you want to make sure that after you’ve created all of this hard work that you edit your footage in a way that maintains the quality. For short form videos like TikTok VideoLeap and InShot are very popular. I personally have an Adobe Creative Cloud account and use Adobe Rush on my smart phone or tablet, and use Adobe Premier Pro on my Macbook.

I hope this helped you get a few steps closer to sharing the content you’ve created with the world!
