It takes a lot of courage to record yourself talking about your passion, interests or opinions on social media. ESPECIALLY with the steady rise of thumb thugs and keyboard gangstas ready to say some of anything because they can hide behind a screen.
Unfortunately, negative comments are almost destined to happen, but I don’t want that to deter you from posting about your business.
Here are tips to keep the haters from getting to you:
- Ignore it -criticism isn’t always bad. Perhaps they’re not a hater, but trying to help you improve something. Remember, you’re never as good or as bad as they say you are.
- Delete it -don’t reply and give them the attention they’re seeking. Either ignore the comment of delete it from your post so it won’t distract anyone else from your content.
- Block them -if you don’t care to deal with them ever again, block them. And on Instagram it asks if you you want to block them and any other account they may create. You should especially to this for spam accounts.
- Think of it as publicity -there is no such thing as “hate watching” or “hate sharing” on every social media platform engagement is engagement, and a view, comment or share counts whether it was done out of love or out of spite.
My personal approach is the last. Unless the commenter leaves a derogatory remark I don’t care. lol! I don’t believe all publicity is good publicity, but most publicity is!
I once posted a hair video recreating a style Nicki Minaj wore. I posted it on Facebook as always and a young lady whom I’ve never met saw it & decided it was ugly. She shared it to her Facebook page, saying nasty things about me and the hairstyle. Her friends responded and kept the train going. It didn’t hurt my feeling because I liked the style (hence why I posted it) and I responded like I do to all my videos “Thank you for watching!” That riled her up even more & her friends began sharing a talking crazy about me too! That went on for about 3 or 4 days… but all Facebook & Youtube knew was that my post was getting lots of engagement and views. Her “hate” resulted in a nice Youtube check!
I know every experience isn’t like that, and by that time I had grown to have thick skin and knew how to deal with negative comments.
If nothing else helps, just keep in mind that these people leaving negative comments don’t know you or your experience. Don’t let a complete strangers opinion about a snippet of your life or business. There are way more people who will love you and want to support you, but they can’t if you never put yourself out there!
