Can I be real with you?!
My background is in media. I held titles like Director, Producer, Talent…
But no one taught me how to do business.
When you’re doing it by yourself and learning as you go, you make countless mistakes and lose lots of time and money.
At least I did 🙃
BUT
I don’t believe it’s truly a waste if you can use those lessons to help the next person and make their life a little easier.
Here are 5 Major Mistakes I’ve made in business
1 – Not being clear about my offer
If you’re not clear about the problem you solve and the solution you provide, it’s going to be very hard ‘convincing’ someone else to pay you. Confusion will cost you your coin!
2 – Not being confident in my prices
If you can’t open your mouth to name your price with complete confidence, take some time to revisit your credentials, qualifications and experiences to identify all that you’ve accomplished. Use this as a quick reminder to help you remember who you are and the value that you bring.
3 – Not learning how to develop digital products sooner
If you only sell physical products or have a service based business, you’re going to limit your profit potential because it will be based on the amount of time you can afford to spend or the amount of physical products you can afford to purchase. Digital products, on the other hand, can be created with information you already know in 24 hours or less, you name your price and you can serve your audience and make money 24/7!
4 – Not having a marketing plan
😮💨 THIS ONE RIGHT HERE! In the past I was focused on “the look” of my brand, but when you spend all your time, energy and money designing the logo and creating the website instead of strategizing on how you will market — you’re going to have a hard time making money. And the few sales you do make probably won’t be sustainable. You have to spend just as much time if not more coming up with a creative marketing campaign as you do coming up with a cool product/offer.
5 – Not asking for or accepting help
Asking for help was definitely a hard one for me, but when you do it all, you limit what your business can do. You have to have a plan for how you’ll work on the business instead of only working in the business. And you don’t know what you don’t know. So hiring help or asking for help from someone who’s been where you want to be can be a life saver! It can literally save you time, money and fast-track your success. You don’t have to do it alone!
