I made a previous post about how you only get one chance at a first impression on social media (read it here). Well the same is true for your website. It takes users about 50 milliseconds (that’s 0.05 seconds) to decide if they want to stay on your website.

Also if a website is slow to load, not easy to use, or looks low quality, users are less likely to remain on your website, let alone purchase your products or services.
I can recall a few years ago when I was looking for a new nail salon. I chose the nail salon with the best website, it was easy to book an appointment and they had current pictures of their work on Instagram. The salon without those things might have done better work, but I’ll never know because I couldn’t figure out how to book an appointment!
There are several reasons according to Forbes why you should invest in a good website:
- Makes You More Credible -having a website tells customers you’re a legitimate business and makes them feel more comfortable buying from you.
- Establish Your Brand -why should choose you over your competition? On your website you can showcase accolades, awards, certifications and positive reviews from past customers.
- Creates Organic Traffic -when someone is looking for the product or service you provide on a search engine your website will show up.
- Digital Marketing -having a website is a type of digital marketing. Also, when using paid ads you need to send the consumers to a location to acquire your services and the easiest place is your website!
- Updates and Announcements -if you change locations, decide to offer a new service or are putting on an event your website is the perfect place to inform current and future patrons of these updates.
Even if you can’t afford a top dollar website today, you should still definitely invest a website. There are so many sites like GoDaddy, SquareSpace and WordPress that are easy to use and don’t require any coding knowledge. Even Google My Business offers a basic website!
A good basic website should include:
- Who you are
- What you do
- How to contact you
- Be easy to read your content
- Be easy to navigate
Don’t complicate things with fancy codes and additional links that you might not be able to maintain once the web developer completes the job. If it still sounds like too much to handle, don’t worry!
